Ways to Deploy Windows XP Using Tools:




There are additional tools in Windows XP that help to make deployment of the OS easier.
            These tools include the Files And Settings  Transfer Wizard, the User State Migration Tool
            (USMT), and Windows Installer.

How to Use the Files And Settings Transfer Wizard

Windows XP provides Files And Settings Transfer Wizard to simplify the task of moving
            data and personal settings from old computer to new one. This does not need to configure all
            personal settings on new computer because the old settings can be move -including display
            settings, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook Express options, dial-up 
            connections, and folder and taskbar options—to new computer. The best way to connect old
            computer to new computer is to use a network connection, but this can be done using  direct
            cable connection. To connect directly computers using a cable, these items a) COM port
            (serial port) on both computers and modem cable to connect the two computers

Steps Using File and Settings Transfer Wizard
1. Click Start – Programs – Accessories – System  Tools.
           
2. Click Files And Settings Transfer Wizard.
            3. In Welcome To The Files And Settings Transfer Wizard page, click Next.
                       
*New Computer - Select this if transfer of files & setting is to be done in this
                                                    computer.
                        *
Old Computer – Select this if transfer of files & setting is to be done in this
                                                    computer.
            4. After selecting the desire option click next. (If Windows Security Alert dialog box
                        appears. Click Unblock).
            5. In the Transfer Method page, select appropriate option. the options are as below and click
                 next.

Direct Cable - A cable that connects computer’s serial ports.
                        *
Home Or Small Office Network -  Both computers must be connected to a
                                                network.
                        *
Floppy Drive Or Other Removable Media. Both computers must have the
                                                same type of drive.
                        *
Other. Files and settings can be save to any disk drive or folder on your
                                                computer or on the network.
            6. Depending on the choice, Configure the connection, and then click Next.
                        In the transfer page, select the option desire, the options are as below:
                        *
Settings Only. These settings such as Accessibility, Command Prompt Settings,
                                                Display Properties, Internet Explorer Settings, Microsoft
                                                Messenger, Microsoft NetMeeting, Mouse And Keyboard, MSN
                                                Explorer, Network Printer And Drives, Outlook Express, Regional
                                                Settings, Sounds And Multimedia, Taskbar Options, Windows
                                                Media Player, and Windows Movie Maker are transfer with this
                                                option.

                * Files Only. These settings such as Desktop, Fonts, My Documents, My Pictures,
                                    Shared Desktop, and Shared Documents. And the file type such as files
                                    types are transferred: *.asf (Windows Media Audio/Video file), *.asx
                                    (Windows Media Audio/Video shortcut), *.AU (AU format sound), *.avi
                                    (videoclip), *.cov (fax cover page file), *.cpe (fax cover page file), *.doc
                                    (WordPad document), *.dvr-ms (Microsoft Recorded TV Show), *.eml
                                    (Internet e-mail message), *.m3u (M3U file), *.mid (MIDI sequence), *.midi
                                    (MIDI sequence), *.mp2 (Movie File MPEG), *.mp3 (MP3 Format Sound),
                                    *.mpa (Movie File MPEG), *.mpeg and *.mpg (Movie File MPEG),
                                    *.MSWMM (Windows Movie Maker Project), *.nws (Internet News
                                    Message), *.ppi (Microsoft Passport configuration), *.rft (Rich Text   
                                    Format), *.snd (AU Sound Format), *.wav (Wave Sound), *.wm (Windows
                                    Media Audio/Video file), *.wma (Windows Media Audio file), *.wpl
                                    (Windows Media Playlist), *.wri (Write document) are transfer with this
                                    option.

                * Both Files And Settings - These option transfer bothe Files and settings.
               
7. Select the appropriate option and click Next.

. Click Finish to complete the wizard on the old computer.

. Move to the new computer and run the Files And Settings Transfer Wizard on it
                        to complete the transfer of files and settings.
