How to Convert a Basic Disk to a Dynamic Disk

All disks are basic disks by default but when needed to take advantage of the functionality that
dynamic disks provide, the basic disks must be converted to dynamic disks. To do this at least 1 MB of free unpartitioned space is required on the basic disk. This 1 MB is necessary to store the dynamic disk database, which tracks the configuration of all dynamic disks in the computer.

Steps:
1. In Disk Management, right-click the desire basic disk and select Convert To Dynamic
Disk. (make sure that the actual disk (to the left of the partitions where the Disk number is
located) is right click but not one of the partitions on the disk.

2.
In the Convert dialog box, verify the desire disks to be converted, and click OK.

3.
In the Disks dialog box, click Convert and then click Yes to confirm.
